January 23 – Conclave
“Carrying off papal pulp
with immaculate execution and career-highlight work from Ralph Fiennes, Conclave
is a godsend for audiences who crave intelligent entertainment,” says Rotten
Tomatoes.
Also starring
Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow, this film is favorite of viewers and critics
alike. A high contender for Best Picture.
February 27 – Sing Sing
Colman
Domingo is a shoo-in for a Best Actor nomination starring as Divine G, a man
convicted of a crime he didn’t commit, who finds new meaning in life from acting
classes he attends in prison. The
Boston Globe calls it “a beautiful film, a must see.”
March 6 – Anora
Winner
of the Palme D’Or at Cannes, this film is a powerhouse, not something usually
said about a comedy/romance.
USA
Today says, “’Anora’ isn’t a fairy tale that plays by the rules of Prince
Charmings and happy endings. Instead, it thankfully explores something more
real: people just trying to get through the day with some sense of hope and
human connection.” This film is slated
by many critics as the movie most likely to win Best Picture.
March 27 - The Brutalist
A critic and
fan favorite getting 94% on the Tomatometer.
A high contender for Best Picture, Best Actor (Adrien Brody) and Best
Supporting Actor (Guy Pearce). Winner of
the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama.
Says Vanity Fair: “Without the nuances
Pearce delivers, The Brutalist would crumble.”
Currently
rated on Gold Derby as movie most likely to win Best Picture.
April 10– Nickel Boys
Adapted
from Colson Whitehead’s novel, this movie.
As the UK’s Observer notes, “A version that is true to the book,
honouring both its spirit and its structure, while also managing to be a
genuinely groundbreaking cinematic work. This is a sublime piece of
film-making.”
