Strings on the Bay, an annual summer chamber music series at Bay de Noc Community College, begins 7:30 PM June 27th at the Besse Center Theater. This performance is the first of three concerts this summer, and it is entitled “Escanaba Connections.” Paul Lundin, the music director of the series and violinist, is joined by Escanaba born cellist Eli Bender and pianist Joey Arkfeld. The program will feature solo works for all three and the Piano Trio in G Minor by Frederic Chopin.

Joey Arkfeld has a degree in piano performance from Lawrence Conservatory in Appleton, WI and is currently studying for a Masters Degree in the Washington D.C. area. He has performed on the concert series accompanying his wife, soprano Tory Wood, who is also a native Escanaba.

Eli Bender is a graduate of Escanaba High School and is currently performing and teaching in Vancouver, Canada. Bender has a music degree from Michigan State University. He appeared on Strings on the Bay as a senior in High School as one of the soloists for the Vivaldi Concerto for Two Cellos. He also performed for Strings on the Bay at a concert in 2013 celebrating Escanaba’s sesquicentennial.

Lundin is also a graduate of Escanaba High School and has been music director of the Community Concert Committee since 1994. He has performed and taught in New England, Louisiana, Wisconsin and now in SE Michigan.

The general admission price is $10 and $5 for students and faculty. Remaining programs in the series are on July 18th and August 8th at the Besse Center Theater.
