Bay College will be producing their first play of the 2017 season on April 6th, 7th and 8th.   “The Bad Seed”, an adult drama, depicts a bright little eight year old girl who appears to be the epitome of a childhood sweetheart with the intelligence and energy of any small youngster.

Bay student, Riley Vogel, will be taking on the lead role of Rhoda Penmark whose sweet child-like demeanor progresses into the dark and mysterious ways of evil.  Rhoda’s mother, Christine, played by Jacinta Gasperich, believes her daughter to be everything a sweet little girl should be.  Then a turn of events sets Christine on a path of discovery that tears her world apart.

In the middle of this dilemma, the stalwart Monica Breedlove, played by Lilyan Nelson, tries to support Rhoda and her family by negating any suspicions they might have about the dear, sweet child.  However, the handyman, Leroy, played by Alex Latta, sees Rhoda as a child very much like himself, cool, calculating and evil.  He conveys this to her in no uncertain terms, a fact she does not accept.

In the middle of this dilemma, Mrs. Daigle, played by Bailey Delke, the mother of Claude Daigle who died, wants answers about his death and tried to pressure the Penmarks about what really happened.  However, Mrs. Daigle’s drinking problem thwarts the attempts.

Adding to the mystery, Miss Fern, head mistress of the prestigious Fern School that Rhoda attends, becomes increasingly interested in what has happened to student Claude Daigle.  Christine’s father, Richard Bravo, played by Nicholas DeMenter, is called upon to help his daughter make sense of the events that have transpired.  Reginald Tasker,
played by Dalton Harju, joins Richard Bravo in an attempt to get to the bottom of the tragedy.

Finally, Christine’s husband, Col. Kenneth Penmark, played by Nicholas DeMenter, who is on assignment and gone for much of the time, comes home to find his family in disarray.

This chilling drama will have the audience members on the edge of their seats. Show times are: April 6-8 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 at the box office for the general public and $5 for Bay College students, staff, and faculty. For more information contact Director Linda Johnson at 906.396.7486.
